When you are making your plans to come and fish in Alaska, one of the first question is – When will the salmon be running? We get this question all the time and the simple answer is – it depends on the type of salmon. There are also several factors in determining when the salmon actually run. How harsh was the winter in Alaska, the historical timing for the streams, the species, the location, etc? Here is a link to Alaskan Fish and Game where they have a chart for the run timing for each region of Alaska.
Below is a quick guide to help determine the running season for each species of salmon.
Running May 15 through July 31
Running July 1 through August 31
July 15 through September 30

I have been to Alaska 8 times for fishing trips. Of all the places we have gone, Alaskan Anglers Inn does it best. They have incredible guides, GREAT food, excellent rooms and beds and the entire staff truly acted like they sincerely “appreciated” us as their guests. I am just so thankful to them for an absolutely wonderful trip for our group! I’m saving again for my next trip!
